A dominant first-half display by AFC Totton, who were 3-0 up at the break, was enough to see off a spirited second-half performance by Manor Farm, ensuring all 3 points from this game went home with the Hampshire club..
During a scrappy opening half-hour it was Totton, looking sharper in midfield, who created the better chances and Tony Lee put the visitors one-nil up in the 28th minute when he had time to steady himself in the penalty area and pick his spot with a low hit that had goalkeeper Ashley Clarke beaten.
There was also little that Clarke could do five minutes later on 33 when Totton went two up with a ‘worldy’ finish by Craig Feeney. The striker picked the ball up 25 yards out, pushed the ball to his right and smacked an unstoppable curling drive high into the corner of the net.
Dean Stamp chipped onto the roof of the net with the home side’s first real effort of the half on 41 minutes but with 45 on the clock Totton increased Farm’s first half misery when Tony Lee capitalised on a midfield mistake and raced clear to beat Clarke with an angled shot for 3-0.
Manor Farm were much better in the second half and substitute Matt Groves was instrumental in both goals that made for an exciting finish to the game. In the 62nd minute Groves hustled away down the left and did well to get a good cross in which Jordan Metters converted sweetly at the far post. The Farm sub then bustled into the box before being brought down for a penalty which Kye Holly slammed home with 71 minutes played.
In a frantic last 20 minutes Craig Feeney went close to making it 4-2 when he pinged a shot dangerously close on 83 minutes and Farm threw the kitchen sink at Totton, looking for an equaliser. The ball was twice flashed across the six yard box but lacked a crucial final touch on both occasions. Totton were able to see the game out, climbing to 4th place in the process. Manor Farm remain in second.
