Bristol Manor Farm got off to a spectacular start to life in the Southern League with a superb comeback win after trailing to two first half goals by North Leigh.
The home side started brightly and the visitors were slow to clear their lines on a number of occasions. North Leigh took the lead on 15 minutes when they broke quickly into the Farm area and Eddie Stevens got on to the end of a simple knock-on, controlling the ball with his chest before volleying coolly past Ashley Clarke in the Manor Farm goal.
North Leigh extended their lead just before the half hour when Stevens again slipped behind the defence and lobbed the advancing Clarke with a smart finish.
Minutes later Farm got a crucial foothold back in the game when striker Dean Stamp beat off two defenders before chipping the ball sweetly over the keeper’s head.
In a powerful second half performance the visitors levelled the score on 51 minutes when skipper Jordan Metters released Kye Holly down the right with a great cross-field pass. Holly then drilled the ball from the by-line back across the box for Ben Bament to rattle home from six yards out.
Harley Purnell then hit the foot of the post as the visitors ramped up the pressure on their hosts.
Farm took the lead on 70 minutes when Metters collected the ball on the left touchline and drove across the 18 yard box before setting up Jack Durrant, arriving on the right hand side of the box to slot the ball home.
Six minutes later Ben Bament got his second goal of the game with an unstoppable curling drive into the far corner of the net to give the visitors a 4-2 lead.
Connor Walden then hit the post for a stunned North Leigh before Dean Stamp put the result beyond doubt, holding off a strong challenge before rifling the ball low past the keeper to make the final score 5-2 to Manor Farm. An eye-catching performance and a remarkable turn around on our Southern League debut. Let’s keep it going!
