The other two matches played on Sunday involved clubs in the bottom half of the table. Cadbury Heath visited Lydney Town and won a League match for only the second time this season and moved off bottom place. Lydney, for whom Matt Bennetto, Matt Adams and Jamie Baker were the marksmen, played over half the match with ten men after a player was sent off for handball on the line. It was goals from Kris Lee, Ashley Knight, Josh Cann [2] and Sean Eyles that gave Cadbury Heath the points. Wotton Rovers entertained Longwell Green Sports and shared two goals Marcus Taylor (Wotton) and George Knight (Longwell Green) finding the net.

At the weekend two matches were played. The bottom two clubs Longwell Green Sports and local rivals Cadbury Heath met at the former's ground and Longwell Green won 3-2 to move off the bottom place. Jack Scott hit a hat-trick for Longwell Green whilst an Ashley Knight [penalty] and another effort from Josh Cann found the net for Cadbury Heath.

Fellow strugglers Thornbury Town were injury hit in their home match against title chasers Winterbourne United; the home side were forced to play the whole of the second half with just nine players and Oneill Ashley took full advantage to score five goals - Winterbourne's other goal scorers in a 9-0 win were Elliot Nicholas, Josh Phillips, Sean Thompson and Brad Graham.

Midweek should have had several important evening fixtures involving the top clubs with first and second placed Yate Town and Forest Green Rovers meeting, third placed Bristol Manor Farm having a visit from fourth placed Winterbourne United and fifth and sixth placed Cheltenham Saracens and Shortwood United playing at the latter's ground. Sadly the top of the table match between Yate Town and second placed Forest Green Rovers was cancelled as the latter had to play a much postponed GFA U18 Shield tie held over since December, whilst the Shortwood v Cheltenham Saracens fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

However, Bristol Manor Farm and Winterbourne United did play in a match described by one Officer of the League as "probably the best game I have been involved with since I joined the County Youth League". In another high scoring match Bristol Manor Farm moved into second place after a 5-3 win.

The New Year started with second placed Forest Green Rovers playing at home to third placed Bristol Manor Farm and leaders Yate Town at home to bottom club Longwell Green Sports.

Bristol Manor Farm have been quietly climbing the League table and moved into third place just prior to Christmas. Forest Green Rovers had led the table by eight points in mid-October, but recently found wins more difficult. In a high scoring match it was the form team, Bristol Manor Farm who ran out 4-3 winners. Scorers for Forest Green were Stuart Tardivo [2] and Daniel Cobb, whilst sometime goalkeeper Glenn Callaghan netted twice for Manor Farm whose other scorers were Dwain James and Jordan Rogers. Manor Farm are now just a point behind Forest Green with a game in hand.

Yate Town took advantage of Forest Green's defeat to open up a four point gap between the two clubs at the top of the table following their 3-1 home win against Longwell Green Sports. Yate's goals came from Neikell Plummer [2] and Charlie Lacey; Jack Scott found the net for Longwell Green.

In the other midweek match Shortwood United beat Cadbury Heath 2-1, Craig Mills and Liam Meredith netting for Shortwood, and James Hubbard for Cadbury Heath. This win means that although Shortwood are in mid-table if they win their outstanding matches they will come into contention at the top of the table.

The heavy rain on Saturday afternoon resulted in all Sunday matches being postponed.

There are some interesting matches this week with Yate Town visiting Shortwood United and the clubs in third and fourth place, Winterbourne United and Bristol Manor Farm meeting at Winterbourne.

Because of GFA U18 Youth Shield matches only one League match took place at the weekend and it was the local derby between Winterbourne United and Yate Town. When the teams had met earlier in the season at Yate they had drawn 1-1. With both clubs looking to win the League this season this was a vital match particularly for Winterbourne who trailed Yate by three points. However, in a match full of goals Winterbourne lost 4-3. Mitch Tippins, Tom Dailly and Oneill Ashley scored for Winterbourne, but Aaron Lochhead netted a hat-trick for Yate and Tom Febry knocked in the other Yate goal. The irony of Lochhead's hat-trick is that on Saturdays he plays for Winterbourne United's adult team. Thus Yate remains undefeated in the League this season and replaces Forest Green Rovers at the top of the table, but for Winterbourne there is the consolation that they have scored four of the seven League goals that Yate have conceded so far this season.

Again GFA U18 Youth Shield matches disrupted the midweek League programme and in the only midweek game Bristol Manor Farm visited Yate Town. Manor Farm had not dropped a point since late September and after a poor start had won three straight League matches. In a match decided by a single goal Yate lost the only remaining undefeated League record and Manor Farm moved up to third place in the table.

Two midweek matches were played. In the first Cheltenham Saracens entertained Bristol Manor Farm looking for a second home win in a week. However, it was the away club that came away with the points with a 3-2 win. Teejay Bick scored both of Cheltenham Saracens goals whilst Jordan Rogers and Jonny Adams were on target for Bristol Manor Farm who were also assisted by an own goal. In an oddity both goalkeepers were sent off for technical offences.

In the clash of the two Stroud Valley clubs, top of the table Forest Green Rovers was at home to Shortwood United. Earlier in the season the two clubs had met at Shortwood and Shortwood had won 2-1 to inflict only one of two League defeats this season on Forest Green. This time a goal from Charlie Benson secured a Shortwood double as Forest Green lost 1-0 and now come under increasing pressure from the clubs below them.

In the League, Bristol Manor Farm had a comfortable 3-0 home win over Thornbury Town to move into a mid table position. Jordan Connor scored twice and Dan Day netted the other goal of the game.

In the other League match Wotton Rovers became the first side this season to visit Shortwood United and come away with anything. Wotton drew 1-1 thanks to an own goal; Toby Wilson netted Shortwood's goal.

The League Cup Second Round pitched Winterbourne United at home to Shortwood. Both sides look to be in with a chance of finishing in the top two in the League at the end of the season. However, it was the home club that came away disappointed after this cup tie, with Shortwood winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Chris Underwood and Chris Carman [2]; Sean Thompson and Mitch Tippins found the net for Winterbourne. In the other League Cup match Wotton Rovers travelled to Cadbury Heath and came away with a 1-0 win.

In mid week Cheltenham Saracens and Winterbourne United shared the points in a 1-1 draw under lights, with the goals being netted by Gary Hill [Cheltenham Saracens] and Oneill Ashley [Winterbourne].

In another mid week match Yate Town moved into second place in the table after a convincing 3-0 home win over Wotton Rovers. Yate had already hit the woodwork twice when a 35th minute effort from Jordan Yeo was tipped onto the top of the bar by Winterbourne's keeper Tom Peterson. From the resulting corner Ollie Slade put Yate 1-0 up; this was Slade's fifth goal in the last three matches. Two second half goals from Gary Simmons sealed the match for Yate.

At the weekend there were four matches and Yate Town took the opportunity to consolidate their second place in the League with a 2-0 win away at Thornbury Town. Both Yate's goals came in the second half from Carl Lakey and Ali Crimp. Forest Green Rovers remain top of the table after a 3-1 away win at Longwell Green Sports. In third place is Winterbourne United who beat Cadbury Heath 2-1 thanks to goals from Tom Dailly aand Mitch Tippins; Jay Powell on his debut for Cadbury Heath netted his side's consolation goal.

Cheltenham Saracens went to Lydney Town and came away with a 3-1 win; whilst Craig Morgan got the home club's goal, it was Fred Latchford [2] and Jamie Moore who sealed the points for the Saracens.

At the weekend there were four League matches and in each match the home club scored three goals.

Undefeated Shortwood United were expected to join Forest Green Rovers at the top of the table, but a trip to Lydney Town ended in defeat as the home club, who lost their first four games, won their third match in a row; this time 3-1. Jason Green, Tom Harris and Jake Proctor scored for Lydney, whilst Joe Rymell netted for Shortwood.

Winterbourne United moved up to second place following a 3-1 home win over Longwell Green Sports - O'Neill Ashley, Tom Dailly and Liam Powell [Winterbourne], and Kieran O'Connor [Longwell Green] were the goal scorers.

After their midweek Cup defeat at Yate, Bristol Manor Farm travelled a bit further north to Wotton Rovers and came away with a 3-3 draw. Marcus Taylor [Wotton] and Rob Suker [Bristol Manor Farm] scored two goals a piece, with Richard Thwaite netting with Wotton's other goal and Brad Thomas also finding the goal for Manor Farm.

Cadbury Heath, who joined the League this season, achieved their first win [3-2] at home to Thornbury Town thanks to goals from Kristian Lee, Ashley Knight and Ben Clist.

With various clubs involved in FA Youth Cup matches, there was just one League match in midweek and two League Cup ties at the weekend.

In the mid week League match Shortwood United maintained its 100% record with a 4-3 home win over Bristol Manor Farm. On target for Shortwood were Toby Wilson, Joe Rymell, Mitchell Grenfell-Williams and Peter Davies, whilst Nicholas Patounas scored twice for Bristol Manor Farm, whose other goal came from Jordan Connor. Despite having the 100% record it is neighbours Forest Green Rovers who head Shortwood in the table because they have played more matches.

Forest Green Rovers travelled to Lydney Town in the League Cup and came away with a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Stuart Tardivo and Jack Webb [2]. Forest Green now entertain Thornbury Town in the quarter finals.

At the start of the season Winterbourne United travelled to Longwell Green Sports in a League match and came away with a 3-1 win. In the League Cup at the weekend Winterbourne entertained Longwell Green and it was a case of déja vu with Winterbourne winning 3-1 again. In the League match Mitch Tippins scored twice for Winterbourne, a feat that he repeated in the League Cup tie, although both this time came from the penalty spot. Winterbourne's other goal came from Liam Powell, whilst Jack Scott netted for Longwell Green, again from a spot kick.

The full draw for the quarter finals of the League Cup

Yate Town or Bristol Manor Farm v Cheltenham Saracens

There was just one match at the weekend when Lydney Town entertained Longwell Green Sports. In a game where players did not make the best of their chances in the first half Longwell Green took the lead after 25 minutes when Lydney's goalkeeper handled the ball outside of the penalty area whilst he was clearing the ball. At the resulting free kick the ball was sent directly into the net. Right at the start of the second half Longwell Green doubled their lead when a long distance left foot drive went into the top corner of the net with the Lydney keeper well beaten. With the match seemingly out of reach with 20 minutes to go Lydney's manager made the brave decision to change the front line and to push players forward. In those remaining minutes Lydney scored three goals and looked dangerous every time they moved forward with Longwell Green unable to cope with four or five attackers in and around the penalty area, as a result Lydney won its first match of the season by 3-2.

In midweek Forest Green Rovers went back to the top of the table following a 3-0 win over Wotton Rovers. Although the final score was decisive the result was in doubt until the last ten minutes. Forest Green's scorers were Danny Cobb, Sam Rushworth and Ashley Caldwell.

Bristol Manor Farm entertained Cadbury Heath in the other midweek match played. Driving rain made the top surface fast and both sides adapted well to the conditions. Both sides who were well matched and there were no goals until the last twenty minutes when firstly Bristol Manor Farm hit the post, then ninety seconds later Cadbury Heath broke away and Luke Bryan slotted the ball home, but within two minutes a mishit shot from the right by Bristol Manor Farm was met on the left by Mario Saceo who equalised to make the final score 1-1.

At the weekend four games were played and all resulted in away wins, and three of the four new sides, Cadbury Heath, Lydney Town and Wotton Rovers lost.

Cadbury Heath held Forest Green Rovers 0-0 at half time, but a Jack Webb corner from the right went directly into the goal to put Forest Green in the lead on the hour and 15 minutes later an own goal and a Stuart Tardivo right foot volley increased the lead until Kyle Tooze scored a late consolation goal from the penalty spot to make the final score 1-3.

Wotton Rovers, who are returning to the League after several years entertained Cheltenham Saracens, who won 3-0 with Nathan Taylor, Owain McFarlane and Josh Ellin finding the net.

Lydney Town had Thornbury Town as visitors and lost 1-2, whilst Longwell Green Sports, who have won the League the last two seasons lost 1-3 at home to Winterbourne United; Kieran O'Connor netted for Longwell Green, whilst Mitch Tippens [2] and Brad Graham scored Winterbourne United's goals.

In midweek there were four other matches. Forest Green Rovers went to the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Lydney Town, Sam Handy scoring the sole goal of the match.

Two of the other early title contenders met at Yate Town. The home side dominated the early part of the match and justifiably took the lead when James Angell rose to head home a cross from the right after 25 minutes. However, Yate's opponents, near neighbours Winterbourne United came right back into the match and early in the second half equalised when a diagonal free kick from the right was met by a totally unmarked Sean Thompson.

Bristol Manor Farm and Cheltenham Saracens are also showing up well early on. The teams met in Bristol and this match also ended in a 1-1 draw after Josh Tovey had found the net for the home side and Nathan Taylor scored for the Saracens.

The last team to start the season was Shortwood United, who opened with a 3-2 win over Longwell Green - the scorers were Joe Rymell, Luke Barstow and Ben Halliday for Shortwood and Kieran O'Connor and Adam Puplett for the visitors.

Newcomers Bristol Manor Farm entertained Forest Green Rovers, who looked likely to score from the kick off, but despite several chances failed to do so. Indeed, it was the home side that went ahead from a shot by Daniel Day half way through the first half. During the second half both sides had further chances to score but neither did, although Manor Farm hit the post. The final score was 1-0.
